The Office of the Chief State Solicitor is part of the Office of the Attorney General whose function under the Constitution is that of adviser of the Government in matters of law and legal opinion. The Chief State Solicitor, as the State’s principal solicitor, has a wide range of legal and managerial responsibilities. The Office provides litigation services together with a wide range of legal services not involving litigation, such as advisory and conveyancing services. The Chief State Solicitor is the professional and administrative head of the Office of the Chief State Solicitor. S/he has responsibility for the overall management of the Office in a manner that ensures the provision of legal services in a cost-effective and timely manner. The main legal functions are to act as solicitor to Ireland, the Attorney General and Government Departments/Offices. The successful candidate will have: • been admitted and enrolled as a solicitor in the State; • a minimum of ten years relevant experience as a solicitor in Ireland; • a proven track record as a leader and senior manager in a challenging environment.
