The Irish Coast Guard (IRCG), a division of the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport provides a nationwide maritime emergency service as well as a variety of services to shipping and other government agencies. Reporting to a designated senior manager, the Health and Safety Officer’s main aim is to prevent accidents, injuries and work related-related illnesses in the IRCG. The Health and Safety Officer will be responsible for creating and implementing health and safety policies in accordance with the latest legislation and fostering a ”zero incident” safety culture in the organisation. As well as the management of health and safety across IRCG locations, s/he will also conduct accident investigations and be responsible for all ongoing in-house health and safety training. The successful candidate will have a qualification at minimum Level 7 on the National Framework of Qualifications in Health and Safety Management with at least two years’ relevant experience in a safety role. S/he will also be capable of working independently and have excellent communication and teamworking skills.
